The Opening Ceremony for the 2008 Olympic Games was held on August 8, 2008 in Beijing, China at 8:08 pm. Eight is deemed to be a lucky number among Asians. For Chinese, the lucky number eight represents getting rich.

Fireworks explode next to the National Stadium, also known as the “Bird’s Nest” during the opening ceremony. Ten thousand athletes have gathered in China for the Olympic games along with hundreds of thousands of fans and 30,000 journalists.

London would be the next to host the Olympics games (2012).  Could they surpass the opening ceremony of this year’s Olympics?
